(UNDATED) - Friday was the beginning of the national “Click It or Ticket” effort, which means local police agencies will be out specifically looking for motorists who are not using their seat belt.
Extra enforcement of seat belt laws will run through June 2, according to a news release from the Bloomington Police Department.
According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts saved 11,949 lives in 2011,
On the other hand, 62 percent of the 10,135 people killed in car crashes in 2011 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 5:59 a.m. were not wearing their seat belts.
