(SALEM) - A Salem man was arrested after he caused an accident that sent a 7-year-old boy to the hospital.
The 7-year-old was air lifted to Kosair Children's Hospital Tuesday morning.
According to Washington County Deputy Jimmy Strange, 29-year-old Daniel Humphrey, of Salem, was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury. He had a blood alcohol content of .08.
According to the accident report, Patricia Atkins, of Salem, was traveling east in a 2003 Pontiac Montana van on Beck's Mill Road just before 10 a.m. and was about to exit the bridge when her van was struck by Humphrey's 2002 Dodge Neon. Strange says, Humphrey had drove across the center line.
The child, who was in the back seat of the van and was wearing a seat belt. The boy, who is Atkins grandson, suffered facial injuries.
Humphrey who suffered minor injuries refused medical treatment and was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center.
