(BEDFORD) - On Get Outdoors Day, families can enjoy games, crafts, archery, prizes, demonstrations and a free lunch for children from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 8 in Murray Forest Park.
Get Outdoors Day is a Presidential initiative encouraging healthy, active outdoor fun. The goal is to bring new visitors to the park as well as reconnect youth to the outdoors.
Attractions include bird hikes, games and demonstrations to teach kids about duck migrations and bee pollination, kite flying, a bouncy house and a variety of games. Children can also learn archery and gun safety.
The first 150 participants will receive a backpack filled with prizes, and every child who comes should go home with information and activity ideas.
Murray Forest Park is off Fifth Street behind Stalker Elementary School.
Bedford city and Rural Transit buses will provide limited free transportation to help get people to the event. Bedford's TASC buses will pick up from Hamilton Courts and the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County buildings. Rural Transit will make pickups at Persimmon Court Apartments, Mitchell Junior High School and Oolitic Middle School. Call Amber at 275-5692 to reserve transportation.
