(BLOOMINGTON) - Late Wednesday after 11 hours of deliberations, a jury found Corey Hamersley guilty of five of the six charges against him in the “naked gunman” trial.
Hamersley, 22, was found guilty of felony charges of attempted murder in connection with firing a 9mm handgun at Bloomington police officer Dana Runnebohm, criminal recklessness in connection with shooting at the home of Margaret and David Greischar, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, pointing a weapon at a police officer, Runnebohm, and a misdemeanor charge of resisting law enforcement.
The jury acquitted him on a charge of pointing a weapon at Bloomington police officer Trae Luck.
Deliberations began early Wednesday afternoon, after jurors heard closing arguments and jury instructions Wednesday morning. The jury of seven men and five women reached their verdict by 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The morning of May 11, 2012, Bloomington police said they confronted Hamersley, who was wearing only flip-flops and a ball cap, as he was firing a gun in the 300 block of East 15th Street. Police reported Hamersley shot at the back of a house and twice at a police officer. When he refused to drop his gun, he was shot by police, once in each leg.
That event led to Hamersley's arrest.
During the trail Hamersley told a jury his friend "Sprout" used a medicine dropper to squirt liquid LSD into his mouth after he and other friends drank and smoked marijuana on the evening of May 10, 2012.
