(CRANE) - A new business is now part of the WestGate @ Crane Technology Park. Camber Corporation, which acquired Novonics late last year, held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning for its new technology office.
Lindsay Owens, of the Washington Times-Herald reports, Novonics had two locations in the area, the one at WestGate and one in Bloomington. The Bloomington location will also remain open under Camber.
In a press release, Camber COO, Walter Batson, Jr., said, "We welcome Novonics employees to the Camber family. Novonics' experience, customer knowledge, and successful project execution is an excellent strategic fit for Camber Corporation. The merging of our teams will provide our customers and the simulation community with even higher quality solutions for their mission requirements."
The acquisition of Novonics combines tactical systems software and simulation capacity from Novonics with Camber's system of integration and engineering as well as cyber security, acquisition management, logistics and sustainment, and interactive training to federal government and commerical customers around the world.
On hand for the event that drew about 40 onlookers were Col. Alan Pratt; commanding officer at NSWC Crane; Loogootee Mayor Noel Harty; Washington Mayor Joe Wellman; John G. Lord, Camber executive vice president, and Walt Sasser; Camber vice president of communications and external affairs.
"This move by Camber demonstrates the strategic attractiveness of the WestGate to defense and technology companies and we look forward to the future growth and expansion of the company," said Wellman.
Camber Corporation supports military efforts worldwide and also does peace-keeping work in underdeveloped countries. The company provides mission critical engineering and technical services to aerospace and defense, national security, and federal government as well.
"We also do intelligence and special operations work, logistics, unmanned aircraft systems, training solutions and much more," said Lord.
In business for over 20 years, Camber is headquartered in Huntsville, Ala., and has 30 U.S. offices that are positioned to provide the best support possible to its customers. The company also has personnel at 100 locations worldwide including Europe, Asia and Africa. They currently have about 2,300 employees. About 16 employees will be based in the local technology office.
"Crane is an important customer for us," said Lord. "Our work here started with Novonics and to have Camber here at Crane is wonderful. We have focused ourselves to be near our customers and we want our employees to participate in and be a vital part of the nearby communities. We are glad to be here."
Several members of the Camber team, including Sasser, have a military background.
"This is a second career for me and it gave me another way to serve my country," Sasser said. "We want to support the warfighter and their mission and we are grateful folks chose to come here," Lord added.
