(UNDATED) - Visitors and employees of Indiana University Health will no longer be able to buy sugary drinks from cafeterias, vending machines and gift shops on hospital campuses.
Indiana University Health implemented the change Wednesday at its downtown Indianapolis and Fishers hospitals.
It plans to eventually continue the practice at its dozen other hospitals around the state, including the one in Bedford.
"IU Health is participating in the national Partnership for a Healthier America Hospital Healthy Food Initiative because we care about the health and well-being of our patients, visitors and team members," according to a press release.
The only sodas now available in the cafeterias are diet drinks such as Diet Coke, Coke Zero and light lemonade, along with 100 percent fruit juices. All full-sugar sodas will be removed.
IU Health also asked its outside restaurant vendors to stop selling all full-sugar beverages, although not all have gone along.
