(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Commissioners voted to remove the assessment photos from 39 Degrees North.
Councilman Keith Dillman addressed the commissioners Tuesday morning with concern that would-be criminals could view the photos and then make plans to steal items they saw in the photos.
Dillman told the commissioners that many of the photos, which are used by assessors to determine taxes, showed open buildings and the items inside.
"Before the assessment there were just sketches of the buildings, but now there are photos of the buildings and the items - inside like tools and ATVs," Dillman told the commissioners. "That concerns me. They can also view where fuel tanks are on the property and I don't want to sound paranoid but..."
Former councilmember Mike Branham told Dillman, from a police officer's point of view, there were concerns that the photos also showed all the entries to a home assisting criminals gain entry.
Dillman and the commissioners had received several complaints about the photos being available for public view, because of those reasons.
The commissioners were concerned about violating public information laws and say they will address the issue with County Attorney David Smith, who was not at the meeting, because of a court hearing. But for now the photos will be removed.
In other business:
* Director of Lawrence County Veterans Services Brad Bough asked commissioners permission to hire Jeff Lytton as the new part-time assistant service officer. * County Project Manager Bob Dillon says work continues on Dunn Bridge. Crews . He has also getting ready to set the beams.
* Sheriff Sam Craig reported there were 126 inmates at the jail, of those 19 were women and 16 Department of Correction holds. He also told the commissioners that it would be cheaper to dispose of the old Army surplus machinery stored at the County Complex then to have an auction and try to sell it. The commissioners gave Craig permission to scrap the items.
* The commissioners opened bids for road paving and bids for the old police cars. Those bids were taken under advisement.
