(SALEM) - A Salem man has been arrested in connection with two fires that took place early last Wednesday morning.
Police arrested 52-year-old Ronald Walton, of Maple Leaf Apartments around 5 p.m. Wednesday. He was charged with two counts of arson, both Class B felonies.
Salem City Police Detective Scott Ratts alleges Walton set a log skidder parked in the 11000 block of McCullough Road in Livonia on fire around 2:30 am. The skidder is owned by Craig Wilson. The second blaze was a GMC Yukon, owned by Enterprise. The fire was reported at 6 a.m. The Yukon was parked at Maple Leaf Apartments.
Ratts says both fires were suspicious and police and firefighters found inconsistencies in Walton's story.
Ratts says after an investigation, checking out the physical evidence and along with Walton's own statements, police arrested him. But the investigation is not over. Ratts says the investigation is not over as police learn more information.
