(SPRINGVILLE) - A Springville woman was injured Wednesday afternoon when she crashed her vehicle after a squirrel ran out in the roadway.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 49-year-old Debra Durnill was traveling west on Washboard Road when a squirrel ran into the roadway. Drunill applied the brakes on her 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee and swerved to miss the animal. That is when officers say she over corrected and hit the culvert and embankment, a mailbox and overturned the Jeep, flipping at least twice.
Durnill suffered minor bleeding to her lower arm and elbow.
There was damage to the culvert pipe, and mailbox owned by Jack Andrew Basinger, at 959 Washboard Road.
Assisting at the scene was an IU Health Hospital Bedford ambulance and Marshall Volunteer Fire Department.
