(BEDFORD) - Friday’s Ugly Duck Derby raised $32,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County.
That amount pushed the club over its goal of raising $250,000 to qualify for a $250,000 match from an anonymous donor.
In just six months since the former Limestone Girls Club and Thornton Memorial Boys became one club, it has raised $278,000. But the club still has another fundraiser, a golf tournament set for June 22.
Jimmy Sowder and Pam Evans, members of the resource development committee, were instrumental in organizing Friday's event and April's Dream Playhouse Auction which raised more than $31,000.
The Club's new Chief Professional Officer Brown thanked everyone who purchased ducks and all the Belly Buster divers, especially Recreation Director Gary Dorsett, who made his big splash from the high dive.
When the club receives the $250,000 match, it will be applied to the principal on the bank loan. The proceeds from the upcoming Craig Bowden Celebrity Golf Tournament will be placed in the club's endowment fund at Lawrence County Community Foundation.
