(LINTON) - Katelyn Wolfe’s favorite local band Orion will headline a memorial benefit in her honor Friday.
Sabrina Westfall of the Greene County Daily World reports that The Friends of Katelyn Wolfe Memorial Benefit will be selling pulled pork meals and an auction will start at 5 p.m. at Linton's Humphreys Park.
Event organizer Mickey Bland says proceeds from the benefit will go to create a scholarship fund for Wolfe's younger brothers, Gavin, 17, and Jakob, 14.
Event co-organizer Lesa Lewellyn noted the funeral costs have been met and all funds raised at this event will be used for scholarship funds.
Wolfe's body was recovered from a body of water in Sullivan County last week. Her cause of death was ashyxiation and was ruled a homicide. She was put to rest Friday in a private ceremony.
To date, $8,000 has been raised through several benefits held in honor of the teen to aid the family with expenses.
Lewellyn said she will be working with attorney Jeff Hawkins, of Hawkins Law PC in Sullivan, to set up the trust funds for the Katelyn Wolfe Scholarship Fund. She noted if Wolfe's brothers should decide not to go to college in the future, the scholarships will become a general art scholarship fund.
The cost for the pulled pork dinner and two sides will be $5 or two sandwiches for $5. There will be a take-out option as well. There will be drinks for sale for $1 and bake sale items.
In addition, Tyler Vivian and his friends, who raised more than $2,500 with a lemonade stand last week, will be set up at the park selling lemonade.
Bland said Bloomfield Processing donated enough pork to feed 1,100 people at the event.
Baesler's Market will be cooking and preparing the pork, and the Dugger BYKOTA (Be Ye Kind to One Another) will be supplying cookers and food warmers. They will join other local volunteers to serve the food.
Auctioneer Monty McKim will be leading the auction with items to include a 42-inch television, vacation spots, Longaberger items and more.
In addition to the hog roast and auction, several local bands will be performing throughout the evening, including Green to Red, King McQueen, Wikker Elefant, Notorious Betty, Demolition, and Orion.
Local comedian Wes Smith will be the emcee for the evening, as well as performing stand-up comedy.
Bland said along with raising funds for the Wolfe family, the Linton Police Department will be at the event doing fingerprints and Nikki Halter of Damsel in Defense will be giving women's self-defense demonstrations.
A classic car show and cruise-in will be set up in the Auto Zone parking lot from 5 to 9 p.m., and there will be face painting and bounce houses set up.
Organizers are still in need of volunteers to help with set-up beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday up until clean-up after the event ends at midnight.
Some items are still needed, such as paper plates and plasticware. Local radio station WQTY 93.3 is donating any items still needed.
