(NASHVILLE) - Brown County voters have successfully blocked a $6.5 million effort to renovate and expand the courthouse.
The clerk's office certified 210 of 217 signatures received, voters only needed 100 to temporarily block the commissioner's bid to enter into a loan agreement.
Commissioner Joe Wray says the project will address security, ADA compliance, logistics and preserve the historic building.
The addition would be constructed on the north side of the existing courthouse.
The finished project will put the court, probation, prosecutor and clerk of courts in one building.
He says commissioners plan to debate the matter further.
