(CRANE) - The army operation at Crane that provides ammunition for military personnel installed a new leader Thursday.
The unit's outgoing Commander, Colonel Lenny Clark, passed command to Colonel Joe Dixon in a formal change of command ceremony.
Clark passed the operation's flag to Dixon during the ceremony -- a tradition that dates back to European armies of old. The ceremony happens every three years in the unit, known as C.A.A.A, and is conducted in front of the unit as a symbol of trust and loyalty in the new commander.
Before assignments in Georgia and Iraq, Dixon met his wife, Amy, at Indiana University and joined the school's ROTC program.
From Indiana University, Dixon joined the Indiana Army National Guard as an infantryman. Since then, he's received awards and decorations that include the Bronze Star Metal and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Dixon says he plans to continue the C.A.A.A's mission to provide ammunition support to the Navy, the Army, the Air Force and the Marines worldwide.
