(BEDFORD) - Debra Smith, community representative for American Cancer Society, says Lawrence County raised $31,000.
The amount was short of the $57,400 goal, but the fundraising doesn't officially close until Aug. 31.
The 2012 Relay raised about $52,000. Organizers have a couple of other events planned this summer to boost the total.
The Relay team named Stomping Out Melanoma will stage a 5K run/walk Sept. 21 in Judah at Johnny Junxions. Toby Gerkin, whose mother Rayjean died from melanoma, is organizing the race.
Bark for Life, a dog walk, is set for Oct. 26 at Spring Mill State Park. Flying Paws Agility, a Bloomington nonprofit, will be at the walk with some obstacles for dogs to run through.
A website for both events will be up soon and include more details.
