(LOOGOOTEE) - Loogootee Summerfest begins tonight at 5, then kicks into high gear Friday before concluding Saturday night with a sky full of fireworks.
Mayor Noel Harty and city officials have organized a wide array of activities for young and old alike. Highlighting the musical entertainment are Sad Sam Blues Jam, plus Terry Lee & The Rockaboogie Band.
Sad Sam Blues Jam takes center stage Friday night at 6. These Bloomington-based gals, teeming with talent that belies their youth, have performed their soulful show at Player's Pub in Bloomington, Salt Creek Brewery near Needmore, and the Bedford North Lawrence Performing Arts Center, just to name a few.
Terry Lee & The Rockaboogie Band, headquartered in Vincennes, is next up at 8 p.m. Revolving around the passionate piano pumping of London's Terry Lee Ridley, the retro act is renowned for covers of Jerry Lee Lewis classics "Great Balls of Fire" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On."
Old-timers should appreciate a few memorable melodies made famous by Elvis, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Fats Domino.
Saturday's Summerfest lineup starts early with a 5K run at 8 a.m., followed by a volleyball tourney and poker run. The beer garden opens at noon and an ice-cream social, car show, corn hole tourney and carnival lead up to performances by the Prairie Creek Bluegrass Band and the Linda Smith Band prior to the fireworks display at 10 p.m.
