(VIGO COUNTY) - A former Linton man was sentenced to 35 years in prison with 10 years suspended Monday in Vigo Superior Court following his conviction last month on one count of child molesting.
Nick Schneider of the Greene County Daily World reports that last month, Joshua Hall, 35, of Terre Haute and formerly of Linton, was found guilty of the class A felony in less than 30 minutes by a Vigo County jury, which heard two days of testimony.
Hall was arrested last May by the Terre Haute Police Department.
The former correctional officer at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility at Carlisle was found guilty of performing various sex acts with a 6-year-old girl on Aug. 15, 2011, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court.
Hall, a 1995 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School who was a standout on the basketball court, formerly worked at the Sullivan County prison facility from January 2008 to February 2011.
He was sentenced by Vigo Superior Court 5 Judge Michael Rader to 35 years with the Indiana Department of Correction, with 25 years to be served in prison and 10 years suspended to be served on probation upon his release.
The judge also fined Hall court costs and fees totaling $172 to be paid by the time his probation period ends.
According to the sentencing order, Hall was also directed not to have contact with or reside within one mile of the victim.
Upon his release, he was ordered to register as a convicted sex offender.
Several family members of the defendant and the victim testified during Monday's hearing, according to a court reporter. However, Hall did not testify.
Hall's lawyer, John Thompkins was advised he has 30 days to file an appeal to the sentencing in the case, according to court records.
