(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was injured after he crashed his truck on Dunn Bridge Road Tuesday afternoon.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 24-year-old Brandon Miller was traveling west on Dunn Bridge Road in his 1999 Dodge Ram truck when he ran off the south side of the road.
Police say the truck hit the east end of a concrete wall along the south side of the bridge, traveled over a creek and then hit a tree head on.
The truck came to a stop in a ditch on the south side of the road facing south.
Miller was trapped inside the truck because the top of the cab was forced down during the accident.
Miller was freed from the truck by Marshall and Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Departments first responders.
Miller suffered chest and internal injuries. According to a friend, Miller suffered multiple injuries including a broken shoulder, collar bone, arm and ribs. He had multiple cuts and bruises. He underwent emergency surgery Tuesday night to have his spleen removed.
A helicopter was called to the scene to transport Miller to the hospital, but was unable to arrive because of the dangerous weather conditions.
Miller was rushed from the scene by a Rural Metro ambulance and taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Stone City Collision towed the vehicle to their garage because of the extensive damage to the vehicle.
Officer Riley Hitchcock was unable to speak to Miller because of the severity of his injuries, so his police report will be updated when he can interview Miller.
Also assisting at the scene was Lawrence County Officer Tyler Phillps, Bedford Fire Department firefighters and TOPES.
