(JASPER) - Indiana State Police arrested 27-year-old Amy Walls of Martinsville on Tuesday, for neglect of a dependent and operating a vehicle while intoxicated after she crashed the vehicle she was driving on 231 north of Jasper
According to police, other drivers witnessed a 1992 Chevrolet Lumina traveling south on U.S. 231 from Loogootee that was driving erratically and passing cars in a dangerous manner even using the shoulder of the road.
According to the witnesses they attempted to notify police but were unsuccessful due to lack of a cell phone signal. When the vehicle was south of Haysville, Walls attempted to pass a truck on a turn near County Road 500 North and sideswiped a northbound 1990 Chevy Pickup driven by 33 year old Robert Smith, of Loogootee. Walls' car struck a traffic sign and ran off the road.
Walls had children in the car; a one-year-old and two-year-old. They were not injured in the crash.
Walls was taken to Memorial Hospital for a drug screen where she tested positive for illegal substances. She was charged with OWI of a controlled substance, criminal recklessness, and neglect of a dependant. She was taken to jail and her children were placed in the care of Dubois County Child Protective Services.
Indiana State Police were assisted by the Dubois County Sheriffs Department, Jasper City Police, Haysville Fire Department and Memorial EMS.
