(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell man was found safe after he went missing after taking a walk Tuesday afternoon.
According to Mitchell Police, Connie Kubander called police at 1:55 p.m. to report that her husband Tom, who is suffering from Alzheimer's, had went for a walk and had not returned home. The Kubanders live on Brook Street.
71-year-old Tom is 6'2'' tall and about 220 pounds and was wearing bibs and a blue shirt over his bibs and black tennis shoes.
Officers spoke with Connie and questioned her on where Tom might have walked to.
Connie told police that Tom usually didn't go far, but he did have a good friend that lived on Meridian Road, but she had all ready checked to see if Tom was there.
At 3 p.m. officers spoke to some people in the area of Plum Street and they told police they thought they had seen Tom walking in the area about an hour ago. He was last seen walking east.
Officers then checked the area of Sixth Street and Sheeks Drive, but couldn't find Tom.
At 3:15 p.m. police contacted the Child Missing Hotline reporting Tom was missing and they issued an alert.
Then at 3:30 p.m. police received a report that someone saw a man that could be Tom walking in the area of Seventh and Main streets. The man was walking toward the post office.
Police went to the area and searched, but didn't find Tom.
A short time later, police notified all the area restaurants to be on the look out for Tom and contacted county officers.
Then at 5:10 p.m. Oolitic Town Marshal Jon Jefferies reported he had found Tom walking on Hoosier Avenue. Tom was taken to the Oolitic Police Station at Town Hall where Connie picked him up and took him home.
