(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell School Board tabled approving coaches for sports at both Mitchell High School and Mitchell Junior High School, including junior high boys and girls track, junior high co-ed golf, sixth grade volleyball, varsity softball, varsity baseball, varsity boys golf, varsity boys and girls track, assistant varsity boys and girls track, assistant varsity baseball and junior high assistant track.
The Times-Mail reports that one parent, Scott Jenkins, whose son is on the high school baseball team, voiced his frustration with varsity coach Jordan Key. The team had a 4-14 record last year, and Jenkins told the board a team can't win if they don't practice. Jenkins says it is not only frustrating as a parent, but team members, like his son, are also frustrated.
Band trip
High school band members are planning to take a trip to Washington D.C. in 2014. The trip is planned for June 12-15 and band members will have the opportunity to play at a National Memorial and get to tour Fort McHenry in Baltimore. Cost to students would be about $800. Band parents will be holding several fundraisers, but the majority of the cost would fall to students and their families.
Fuel bid
The board awarded the 2013-14 fuel bid to Sprint, which submitted the low bid of 2 percent off of the pump price for diesel and 1.75 percent off the pump price for regular. There were only two bids for fuel, the other being from Jones Oil Co.
