(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell Community Public Library’s summer reading program, “Dig Into Summer,” will start June 3 and end July 27.
Registration begins June 3.
The staff will feature three programs a week and prizes every day.
The most innovative program, according to Youth Services Librarian Jacqui Milliern, is the Make it Mondays every Monday at 3 p.m.
"We give kids the tools and tell them to imagineer," she said. Imagineer is a term coined by Disney combining the words imagine and engineer.
"One week, they have to make a fort ... and we'll give them newspapers, rubberbands, and tape," Milliern said. "And no instructions."
Additionally, events will take place throughout the summer to match the theme. Thursday programs will focus on crafting.
One such planned event is "painting cave walls like we're neanderthals," Milliern said. "So we'll be painting with our fingers and toes."
Depending on the group turn-out, the painting will take place in the dark, with the lights off.
The summer reading program will have a big ending event.
From Aug. 1-3, a scholastic book fair will take place.
