(UNDATED) - Indiana Conservation Officers want to remind boaters to boat safe and sober this coming weekend. Conservation Officers will be out in force on lakes and rivers for a weekend of Boating Under the Influence detection and enforcement.
Operation Dry Water, is set to begin on June 28-30, 2013 nationwide. Operation Dry Water is a coordinated, national weekend of Boating Under the Influence (BUI) detection and enforcement aimed at reducing the number of alcohol-related accidents and fatalities, and to foster a stronger and more visible deterrent to alcohol use on the water.
Curbing the number of alcohol related accidents and fatalities are a key to achieving safer and more enjoyable recreational boating.
Nationally 17% of boating fatalities involve alcohol use.
2012 saw 62 boat accidents in the state of Indiana, involving 22 injuries and 2 fatalities.
