(BLOOMINGTON) - An 8-year-old Bloomington boy was injured after he darted in to traffic on Monday and was hit by a car.
Bloomington Police Sgt. Joe Crider says boy suffered minor lacerations and bruising, swelling to his face and possible spleen and liver damage and a possible fractured pelvis. He was taken to IU Bloomington Hospital and then transferred to Riley Children's Hospital.
Crider says the accident happened at Nancy Street and Hillside Drive.
According to Crider the boy and his mother and a family friend were getting off the city bus and were waiting for a vehicle to pass before crossing the street, when the child went ahead and stepped into the roadway and was hit by a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe traveling west on Hillside Drive.
Crider says the driver, a 41-year-old woman, did not have time to stop and hit the child.
After the accident the woman submitted to a chemical breath test that came back negative for alcohol she also requested her blood be drawn.
Crider says the woman was not charged and the cause of the accident was because the child had ran out into the roadway.
