(BLOOMINGTON) - Due to high cat intake levels, cat adoption promotions offered in June will be continued through July at the Bloomington Animal Shelter.
Cats 1 year old and older are $15. A kitten can be adopted for $45, or two for $75.
In addition, the Shelter will "Let Freedom Purr" in celebration of the Fourth of July holiday; cat adoption fees will be waived July 5 through 7. During June, 62 kittens and 40 adult cats found new homes, an increase over 2012's 32 kitten and 34 adult cat adoptions. However, the Shelter took in more than 200 cats during that time and needs to continue to encourage adoptions.
Regular adoption fees are $75 for cats younger than 5 years old and $55 for cats 5 years and older. Included in the fee are spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchipping and testing for feline leukemia and FIV.
The public can visit adoptable animals at the shelter, located at 3410 South Walnut Street. The Shelter is open to the public Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from noon until 7 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
Adoptable animals also can be seen on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Farmers' Market and can be viewed online at www.bloomington.in.gov/animalshelter and at www.facebook.com/COBAnimalShelter.
