(SPRINGVILLE) - The ABATE Boogie kicks off today at the Lawrence County Recreational Park in Springville and will end on Sunday.
The Boogie, the largest annual fundraiser for Indiana ABATE - a motorcyclists' rights and education organization - attracts roughly 10,000 people each summer for three days of music, motorcycle-based competitions and partying.
It's a private function; and you have to be a member of ABATE to enter the festivities.
The event is a godsend to the local community with thousands visiting restaurants, stores and staying in motels in the area.
An impact report from the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council revealed that total direct spending will be more than $7 million for the weekend.
Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says for more than a decade bikers have partied here without causing any significant problems but he will have extra officers on duty just in case.
