(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Town Council made a declaration of emergency due to damage to the public works from the series of recent storms.
During their regular monthly meeting Wednesday evening, Council member Eric Harrah said parts of Osborne Lane, South Street and Franklin Street are in need of immediate action to address the issues caused by severe flooding.
Council President Doug Frye said the damage was worse than originally anticipated, and asphalt has risen in the roadways. Due to the damage along South Street, a portion of the road has been blocked off to prevent further damage from traffic. Harrah said the ravine washed out part of Osborne Lane, which has exposed the sewer lane.
The motion to declare the emergency of addressing the public works issues included the town inviting quotes from two excavating companies -- Riley Terrell Excavating and Lowder Excavating.
Greene County Emergency Management Agency Director Roger Axe provided the council with documentation to sign which he would be forwarding to the state level to seek reimbursement funding for the emergency repairs.
Axe noted to finalize the paperwork he would need a preliminary estimate of the costs of the repairs, which council members said they should have available next week.
Axe also suggested council members call our local state legislators to "push something" in terms of funding reimbursements.
