(BEDFORD) - During a family argument about how to set up cable TV, Carl Shelton allegedly punched and strangled his 19-year-old son, then hit the son with the handle of a machete.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, dispatchers received a 911 call at 3:06 p.m. Saturday about a family altercation that was taking place at Shelton's address.
"There was a family argument," Parsley said. "One of the family members alleges that Shelton punched (the son) twice in the abdomen, and then punched him in the head. Then he grabbed the (son) by the throat, choking him." At that time, another family member stepped in to break up the argument, according to Parsley.
"The same person (reporting the incident) alleges Shelton then grabbed a machete and threatened to kill the victim," Parsley said. "The victim alleges that Shelton then hit him in the side of the head with the handle of the machete. "They were arguing about how to hook up cable TV."
Officers took written statements while Shelton was placed under arrest and taken to jail. Shelton bonded out of the jail Sunday on a $2,005 bond.
