(ODON) - Residents of Odon are looking at a $4.5 million upgrade to the town’s sewer system.
That means residents could see an increase in their sewer bill. The bill could increase as much as 100 percent to finance needed upgrades to the town's wastewater treatment plant.
The Odon Journal says the town council heard a report from Christiana Horan, of Umbaugh and Associates, that says a rate of between $52 and $59 a month will be needed to fund the project. Odon residents currently pay a sewer bill of $28.80 a month.
Odon's current sewer plant is working at near capacity and the town council has been notified that regulatory agencies could apply restrictions.
Heavy rainfall often results in flooding at the plant causing an illegal discharge of untreated sewage.
With the opening of I-69 the North Daviess and Odon area are expected to experience substantial growth. Town Council President Tom Noble says if nothing is done the town would have to turn away new customers and the opportunity of growth will pass the town by.
