(BIRDSEYE) - Registration is open for the Patoka Lake Sprint Triathlon, which will start at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 24 at Patoka Lake beach.
All proceeds from this event will go to support Patoka's non-releasable raptors, a red-tailed hawk and eastern screech owl. Officials also hope to save the life of a bald eagle by acquiring a non-releasable eagle for Patoka's raptor education program.
Participants in the sprint triathlon will swim 500 yards in the lake, bike 12.8 miles along paved roads within the property and run a 5K along groomed gravel roads and a paved bike trail.
Register within the next 30 days for a chance to win a free one-night cabin rental near the Patoka Lake entrance for the night before the race. Visit patokatriathlon.dnr.in.gov for more information.
Those interested in volunteering or sponsoring this event can contact the race director, Dana Reckelhoff, at (812) 685-2447 or dreckelhoff@dnr.in.gov.
