(ORLEANS) - Orleans Town Clerk Robert F. Henderson reports that his office has received numerous calls from residents concerning reported solicitors and peddlers making their rounds in and around town recently.
Henderson wishes to inform townspeople that pursuant to town ordinance that any type of solicitor or peddler must first registered at the Office of the Town Clerk and obtain a proper permit to be on file with both the Clerk and local Police.
The registrant must provide his name, residence address, business address, name of employer, Indiana state tax number, nature of the product or services to be offered, and the proposed method of any vehicles to be used and any information that may be additionally required by the Town Clerk or the Chief of Police.
Solicitors are required to carry at all times the permit and/or paperwork issued by the Clerk. Peddling is only permitted within the corporate limits between 9 a.m. and sunset.
Any resident having concerns and/or questions are asked to contact the Orleans Police Department, 865 2222 and/or Office of the Clerk-Treasurer, 865-2539.
Orleans Chamber of Commerce is reminding area residents that the group's downtown Welcome Center, located on the north side of the historic town square is again serving as Orange County's satellite visitor center and is open on weekends to greet visitors as they enter the county or visit one of the many events happening on the Historic Congress Square.
The Visitor Center is operated through a joint agreement between Visit French Lick West Baden and the Orleans Chamber.
The center is equipped, through the partnership with the CVB, with a large array of print information on area lodging and attractions as well as free internet accessibility for those wanting to inquire directly about lodging reservations or other visitor related services.
The Visitor Center is open every Saturday in conjunction with the OC Homegrown Orleans Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to Noon and during special events happening in the historic town green. For more information contact the Welcome Center at 865 9930 or visit www.historicorleans.com
