(SALEM) - A Salem man was arrested after police found him strangling a woman when they arrived at a home after a 911 call.
37-year-old Michael Bowling was charged with felony counts of battery causing serious bodily injury and intimidation, strangulation and criminal recklessness.
The Leader Democrat reports, when Washington County Deputy Joe Keltner arrived at Bowling's home last week they saw him sitting on top of a woman, choking her. The woman was struggling to get free from Bowling, who rolled off of her when he realized headlights were shining on him.
The woman jumped up and ran to the patrol car. The woman, who is Bowling's former girlfriend and pregnant with his child, came to the home after Bowling called her telling her he was going to kill himself.
After she arrived Bowling became verbally abusive so the woman attempted to leave and that is when he blocked her vehicle with his truck and told her he would shoot her gas tank if she attempted to leave.
She then exited her car and that is when Bowling grabbed her threw her to the ground and began choking her. At one point, she alleges Bowling held a knife to her throat, punched her and told her he had lured her to his home so he could kill her.
