(WORTHINGTON) - The Worthington Town Council demoted its town marshal and named an interim chief of the police department during a special meeting Friday evening.
The Greene County Daily World reports, Donald Richardson, who served as interim town marshal from Dec. 2011 to April 2012 when he was named town marshal, was returned to his deputy marshal position by a unanimous vote of the town council.
The demotion is effective Friday.
Deputy Randy Raney was named interim town marshal.
Town Council President Mackey Stahl says the change had been talked about for some time among the five council members.
Stahl says Richardson was not doing his job. He was taking time off without notifying the council. Stahl says the board was not happy with the way he was handling things and Richardson wasn't following procedures and wouldn't wear his bullet proof vest.
Richardson had no comment on the council's action.
The town is looking for a new town marshal and applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on August 13.
Applications can be picked up at town hall.
A new marshal will be appointed by late August.
