(BLOOMFIELD) - A 27-year-old Bloomfield man was taken into custody Friday night after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Rodger Wilson, Jr. is accused of shoplifting items from the Picnic Basket convenience store in Bloomfield on Aug. 11.
According to Bloomfield Lt. Jeremy Inman, Wilson and his wife went to the store on August 11 and were asking what they could purchase with food stamps. Wilson allegedly shoved a lighter, a sandwich, a Tornado wrap and three "HotTips!"cell phone charger into his pockets and failed to pay for them.
A store clerk told police the two did purchase some food items and a pack of Marlboro cigarettes, and Wilson returned a second time and purchased a can of Copenhagen Long.
Police say the store's video camera recorded Wilson stealing the items.
When police questioned Wilson about the items he allegedly told police he didn't know why he took the phone chargers because he couldn't use them and he didn't remember taking the other items.
Wilson was charged with theft a Class D felony and remains in custody.
