(BLOOMFIELD) - 29-year-old Rachel B. Smith of Bloomfield was arrested Monday by Greene County Prosecutor’s Investigator Julie Criger on a preliminary charge of child exploitation - a class C felony.
According to the Anna Rochelle, of the Greene County Daily World, Smith was in Greene County Circuit Court for a Child in Need of Services hearing and was arrested.
She is accused of taking inappropriate and sexually explicit pictures of a naked child in an unusual position. The incident happened in Smith's home in December of 2012.
Investigators began investigating the allegation after receiving information in January and after interviews Criger and DCS family case managers obtained a search warrant and with the assistance of Greene County sheriff's deputies found numerous pornographic items in Smith's home at 1060 East Miller Rd., in Bloomfield.
Those items were on cell phones, computers, video cameras, CD and DVD discs, magazines and books, items of clothing, sexual devices, and a collar were collected as evidence.
Criger reported they found pornographic pictures of the child on a phone and a laptop.
Criger wrote in a probable cause affidavit that officers did not collect everything that they found in the home that was related to this investigation because it was too numerous.
Deputies assisted DCS case managers with the removal of the child victim from the home in January and no further information is available regarding the child.
Numerous specific allegations were made by the child and are detailed in the six page affidavit.
The investigation is ongoing.
