(BLOOMINGTON) - A 40-year-old Bloomington man was arrested Saturday after reportedly choked his girlfriend. Chad Featherston was arrested on charges of aggravated domestic battery, strangulation, confinement and interfering with the reporting of a crime.
According to Bloomington Lt. John Kovach, police were called to the domestic fight in the 1800 block of South Maxwell Street at 2:11 a.m.
There they found a 35-year-old woman who reported that Featherston became irate and began yelling at her.
She told police he picked her up by the neck and was choking her. She attempted to flee but he grabbed her again.
She then told officers she tried to get her phone and call 911 and that is when Featherston grabbed her phone and broke it.
The woman then attempted to leave with her young son, but again Featherston blocked the door. She was then able to escape out a back door and ran to a neighbor's home where she called police.
When officers arrived they found Featherston outside near a shed. He told officers that he did not know what was going on and that his girlfriend started yelling and tried to punch him.
But due to the inconsistencies in his story, Featherston was arrested.
