(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested after allegedly hitting two officers with a vehicle early Sunday.
Police arrested 36-year-old Jason Paul Zimmerly on charges of battery with a deadly weapon against a police officer, disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement.
Bloomington Police Sgt. Joe Crider says police were called to the 800 block of South Basswood Drive after receiving a call at 3:13 a.m. from Zimmerly's mother reporting he could be suicidal.
When they arrived, they found Zimmerly sitting in a 1997 black Saab. Police shined their flashlights in the vehicle in order to identify who was in the vehicle and that is when Zimmerly put the vehicle in reverse nearly hitting two officers. He then put the vehicle in drive and hit an officer. He then allegedly put the vehicle back into reverse and hit another officer before driving away.
Police found the empty Saab at 3:40 a.m. in the 900 block of South Copper Beach Way.
They stayed in the area watching the vehicle until 5:20 a.m. when they saw Zimmerly approaching the car. Officers positioned their police cars so Zimmerly could not drive away and negotiated with him until he agreed to be taken into custody.
Zimmerly denied hitting the officers with his car and told police he was just trying to leave because he didn't want to talk to police.
