Former Pappa's Manager Arrested For Theft

Last updated on Wednesday, August 14, 2013

(BEDFORD) - A manager who worked at Pappa’s restaurant has been charged with 18 counts of thefts after she allegedly stole cash from the business.

26-year-old Vea Saunders, of Mitchell, was arrested Monday afternoon and was later released on a $755 cash bond.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the owner of Papa's Ernie Coffman called police on June 10 to report money was missing and that Sunders had been stealing from the restaurant from February till June.

According to police , Coffman says Saunders "had used two different schemes to steal cash" Suanders would write a check to Pappa's and then take cash from the register. She allegedly wrote 12 checks to Pappa's that were returned because of insufficient funds.

The second scheme involved Sauders padding the shift's sales total for credit card purchases, making them higher than the actual sales for the day.

Saunders allegedly did this six times and the amounts ranged from $94.52 to $236.76. Sauders then allegedly removed the padded amounts from the cash register.

According to police Saunders admitted to writing the bad checks to Papa's saying she was in a financial bind and that she was aware she did not have enough money in her account to cover the payment for the checks.
