(BLOOMINGTON) - A 19-year-old Indiana University freshman is on life support at IU Health Bloomington Hospital after she fell down a staircase at a house on North Park Avenue Friday morning.
The student from Zionsville arrived on campus Monday. Officials are not releasing her name because family members are still being contacted.
University Spokesman Mark Land says the woman moved into Wright Quad and planned to enter the pre-nursing program.
According to IU Interim Police Chief Laury Flint the student was found semi-counscious at the bottom of the basement stairs at 817 N. Park Ave. sometime between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Friday morning by other people in the house.
They moved her to another room and monitored her throughout the morning. Flint says at 7:48 a.m. they called an ambulance because the woman was unresponsive.
Flint says the student's mother is with her at the hospital.
Campus police interviewed those who live in the house and others who were there. Flint says the incident is still under investigation.
