(LEESVILLE) - A Medora teen was killed and another seriously injured in when the moped they were riding was hit by a pickup truck.
According to Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig, the accident happened in a 90-degree curve on George Johnson Road, which is south of Leesville near the Jackson County line at 6:30 p.m.
Lawrence County Officer Tyler Trueblood was dispatched to the scene. When he arrived first responders from Guthrie and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Departments were administering first aid to the victims.
16-year-old Kassi Lewis-Yoskovich, of Medora was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Rob Herr.
Herr say the cause and manner of death has not been determined and an autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
According to a preliminary police report, 14-year-old Noah Brown, of Medora was seriously injured but was able to tell police what happened.
Brown who was driving a 2004 Vento moped, told police he was traveling south on George Johnson Road and coming around the turn when a driving in a pickup truck hit them and continued traveling northbound.
Air Evac and Life Line helicopters were called to the scene. Air Evac transported Brown to Riley's Children Hospital in Indinapolis.
Sheriff Craig called in an Indiana State Police accident reconstructionist to assist with the investigation.
"We did locate a vehicle of interest in this accident and the case is still under investigation," Craig added.
No arrests have been made at this time.
