(BEDFORD) - Bedford officials plan to construct Plaza Drive South in 2014.
The project will extend the existing Plaza Drive south from 16th Street, past the entrances to McDonald's restaurant and Lowe's Home Improvement store. From where the road ends now, a new roadway will extend farther south then turn west to link with Ind. 37.
The total projected construction cost is $5.5 million. According to Mayor Shawn Girgis, the city share will be about $1.4 million. Most of the project cost will be paid through funding received under former Mayor Joe Klummp along with additional federal funds received by the city.
Mayor Girgis says in addition to the matching funds for road construction, the city has budgeted for moving and improving water and sewer lines and other work needed to complete the project.
Girgis hopes to acquire the needed right of way early in 2014 and then after that, construction should get underway.
