(SALEM) - A physical fight that took place in front of three children all under the age of 5 resulted in a Salem couple being arrested.
21-year-old Jashua Higdon and 19-year-old Danielle Higdon were each charged with domestic battery with a child present, a Class D felony.
The Leader Democrat reports the altercation took place on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the Higdons' home in the 2700 block of West State Road 56 in Salem.
Danielle Higdon told police that her husband shoved her to the ground and grabbed her by the throat after they argued over their son. She told police she started fighting back and hit her husband.
Jashua Higdon told police he was going to leave with the two boys and that is when the two began struggling over a car seat.
During the struggle, police say Danielle bit her husband on the arm as he was choking her.
Police say both of them had marks from the fight.
The two were arrested and the children were released to the care of their grandmother.
