(SALEM) - The City of Salem has reserved two parking spaces in the city hall parking lot for veterans.
Salem Mayor David Bower is encouraging other entities, businesses and organizations to do the same.
He has issued a challenge to other entities in the community to supply veterans' parking spaces.
Tom Voyles, superintendent of the city's street department, said the city would order the signs and help with placement. The cost is less than $30 per sign.
The city has also honored veterans with a walking trail at Lake Salinda. The trail head is located near the parking area for the boat ramp at the back of the lake.
Bowers just wants veterans to know the City of Salem appreciate them.
