(SALEM) - 20-year-old Steven Raisor, of Salem, was killed after he crashed the ATV he was riding Tuesday night.
According to Indiana Conservation Officer Jim Schreck the accident happened just outside of Salem around 9:30 p.m.
Officers were called to the 5000 block of East Old State Road 56. The caller reported the ATV had overturned and Raisor was unresponsive.
Raisor was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to preliminary investigation, Raisor was eastbound on a Honda ATV before he lost control and was thrown from the ATV, striking the roadway surface. Raisor was not wearing a helmet or any safety equipment at the time of the accident.
Washington County Coroner Rondale Brishaber will determine the official cause of death.
Assisting agencies at the scene included the Washington County Sheriff's Department, Gibson Township Volunteer Fire Department, and Washington County Ambulance Service.
Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to always wear a helmet and necessary safety equipment when operating an ATV.
