(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University Students’ Castoffs is preparing to open its doors for the fourth straight year in a new location with more merchandise.
The Hoosier to Hoosier sale is a joint venture between IU and the city of Bloomington. Sale organizers collect discards from students living on and off campus, then sell them each year. Proceeds benefit several local nonprofit groups.
The Herald-Times reports last year's sale diverted about 35 tons of castoffs from the waste stream and generated $29,000 for nonprofits such as Habitat for Humanity.
City sustainability coordinator Jacqui Bauer says this year's sale has up to a third more merchandise than last year's event.
The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at The Warehouse, 1525 South Rogers Street
