(BEDFORD) - The Angels of Gabriel Michael Howell Foundation will host its annual benefit and motorcycle ride on Sept. 7 at the Bedford First Church of God. Proceeds will benefit 2-year-old Payton Pridemore, of Springville.
Pridemore suffers from severe seizures. The exact cause of her seizures is unknown, but the seizures have caused the child to suffer brain damage. She's on a restricted diet and takes 28 daily doses of medication and oxygen to prevent more seizures.
Sunlight or just the shift in light stimulates her brain, prompting a seizure. Special care must be taken, via an ambulance with darkened windows, just to transport her to doctor's appointments at Riley Hospital.
Jamie DeVault, who works with the Angels foundation, says "her seizures are so severe that there has to be two people with her at all times, and she's fed through a feeding tube."
In the past, the focus of the annual benefit was placed solely on a motorcycle ride. This year, volunteers are taking the fundraising a step further by adding an all-day festival and car and motorcycle shows to the lineup.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. for the car and bike shows. Entry is free. The show will continue through 10:30 a.m.
There will also be a carnival with a carousels, Moonwalks and Pony Rides of Martinsville, and other offer inflatables, games. The cost of an all-day bracelet is $5 per child, and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of those bracelets will be given back to the foundation.
The motorcycle ride will begin at 11 a.m. Registration will start at 9 a.m. The cost is a donation of $20 per bike, or $25 for a different vehicle. The ride will continue for about 2 1/2 hours and end at Center Township Volunteer Fire Department in Greene County, just a short distance from Payton Pridemore's home.
A hog roast, raffles and prizes will be offered at the fire station for those who participated in the ride.
A corn hole tournament will take place at the church starting at 2 p.m., with registration beginning at 1 p.m. The cost is $5 per person to enter the tournament and a set of boards will be given away as the prize. The festival will continue at the church through 5 p.m.
For more information on the benefit or donating, call Jamie DeVault, event coordinator, at (812) 267-4773. All of the day's events will happen rain or shine.
