(BEDFORD) - Doug Horton, Lawrence County’s director of community corrections presented copies of his annual report to the Lawrence County Commissioners.
Horton noted the number of community service hours completed was 20,467, an increase over 2012 totals. He received 619 referrals for work crews, and 259 offenders were placed on home detention.
Horton believed the department accomplished all eight of its prescribed goals, which are to: assess risk/needs; enhance intrinsic motivation; target interventions; skill train with direct practice; increase positive reinforcement; engage ongoing support in natural communities; measure relevant process/practices; and provide measured feedback.
Horton noted for nine of the past 10 years participants in the county's community correction program have experienced an increase in completing program requirements.
A cost analysis of work crew projects, the home detention program, and the juvenile problem-solving court revealed a savings of nearly $1,244,000.
