(VINCENNES) - Daviess County running enthusiasts will have a chance to run for a good cause on Aug. 24 as Generations, a program geared toward helping older adults and persons with disabilities of all ages foster their independence and dignity, will be sponsoring its third annual run.
The Washington Herald reports, the Trailblazer 5K- Blazing the Trail in Healthy Aging will begin at the Vincennes University outdoor track and field facility located at the corner of Chestnut Street and Red Skelton Boulevard.
Participants registering for the event prior to Aug. 10 are guaranteed a moisture management T-shirt. Early registration will cost $25. Registration after Aug. 10 will be $30 and there is no guarantee of a T-shirt. Registration will be begin at 7 a.m. and the run and walk will begin at 8 a.m.
Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female runners and the top three runners in each of the age divisions will receive medals.
Alma Kramer, program coordinator for healthy aging, says walkers as well as runners are encouraged to participate.
Kramer said the route, which is both safe and scenic, will run through the VU campus. This event will also feature a free half-mile fun run following the 5K. Participants in the fun run will receive participation ribbons.
Funds raised through the 5K will help Generations continue to serve the needs of older adults in our six-county service area allowing residents to remain active and independent in their own homes.
This year for those that would like to support Generations but cannot participate in the run, there will also be a phantom run.
Individual phantom runner donations are $30. Phantom runners making their donations before Aug. 9 will receive a goodie bag and T-shirt. Phantom Family Runner donation packages are also available for $50 or more before Aug. 9. The family package will also include goodie bags and T-shirts with the family's name on the back of the running shirt. For every $50 donation, the family will get a goodie bag and personalized T-shirt.
Generations serves over 3,300 residents in Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Knox, Martin and Pike counties.
Those wishing to register for the 5K or phantom run can do so by going to www.trailblazer5k.com, or by contacting Alma Kramer at 812-888-4527.
