(BROWNSTOWN) - A Vallonia man was seriously injured after he fell asleep while driving last week.
According to Indiana State Police, 46-year-old Allen Newsome, of Vallonia, fell asleep while traveling just north of the Washington County line at 4 a.m. August 13. Newsome's Ford Bronco went off the roadway and hit a utility pole.
Newsome was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Brownstown Fire Department. He was flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital after suffering severe injuries to his lower extremities.
Newsome remains in serious condition. He has undergone numerous surgeries with more to follow within the next two weeks, with a possible leg amputation.
Police say drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
