(BROWNSTOWN) - A Vallonia man was suffered serious leg injuries after he fell asleep and crashed his vehicle early Tuesday morning.
According to Indiana State Police Trooper Seth Davidson, 46-year-old Allen Newsome was traveling south on Ind. 135, just north of the Washington County line when he fell asleep while driving.
His 1983 Ford Bronco left the roadway and hit a utility pole.
Newsome was pinned in the vehicle and had to be freed by Brownstown Fire Department first responders. He was then taken by ambulance to a landing zone where a helicopter transported him to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Trooper Davidson says drugs and or alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
