(BROWNSTOWN) - The first of two people arrested in connection with an investigation into more than 40 counterfeit bills passed in Seymour in the fall of 2012 has been sentenced.
Senior Judge Bill Vance sentenced 33-year-old Samantha Jo Perez to serve one year of her sentence on home detention.
The remaining three will be served on supervised probation. Perez was arrested in early December. The bills, which included hundreds and some 50s, 20s, 10s and 5s, began showing up at restaurants and convenience and liquor stores in October.
A second person, 34-year-old Phillip Meade, 34, of Medora, was arrested in January in connection with the same investigation. Meade, who remains in the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown, is set to stand trial on nine counts of fraud on September 10th.
Perez's entered a plea agreement on May 1. According to that agreement, the state agreed to dismiss eight additional counts of fraud, Class C felonies.
As a special term of the home detention agreement, Perez agreed to testify truthfully about any criminal acts she has knowledge of.
Perez also was ordered to repay $220 to nine Seymour businesses in connection with the counterfeit bills.
Perez who served 78 days in jail was given an additional 78 days credit time and ordered her to pay court costs, home detention fees and probation fees.
